Day 4 of our walking started with a leisurely breakfast at the Parador. We are staying at this hotel for 2 nights so we had extra time this morning. Even though we are considerably high in the mountains already, we took a cable car even higher above Fuente De and close to the highest peaks of the Picos de Europa Mountain range. Originally, we were planning to climb up to the summit of one of the highest peaks called Horcados Rojos but unfortunately the snow has not sufficiently melted yet to allow us passage through. Instead, we decided to use this beautiful weather to hike around and under the ridges of these peaks, and take in the views of the Aliva Pastures. Wild life was every where; horses, cattle, goats and sheep as you'll see in the pictures below. The Aliva Pastures provide a huge natural grazing area for these horses, cattle and sheep in the area and a great hunting ground for eagles, of which we saw several, and even a few mountain deer running and skidding down the snow covered slopes.
Rising high above Fuente De in our cable car. That's the Parador we slept in last night below.

Don finds a pet goat to walk.
As you can see, the snow was still pretty high in places . . . geez it's June 18th!

And I thought I had a bad hair day.
Our lunch time picnic spot!
Beautiful glacial lakes along the trail.
Pete and Shelagh, living on the edge.
This is as far as the trail would let us ascend today without proper winter climbing equipment.
Don, impatiently waiting to go down for his happy hour beer!!
Our ride home arrives.
