The Gathering

We're here!   After a delayed start in Atlanta due to summer thunderstorms, we connected to Bilbao through Madrid and arrived just after lunch on Tuesday.  After settling in our hotel and a brief walk through town, we met our hiking compatriots, Pete and Shelagh who arrived on a flight from the UK.

For our first night in Spain, we only had to walk around the corner to find a small Tapas bar where we tucked in to some great Serrano ham, chorizo, cheese, bread and Spanish wine.  A fitting start for our gathering!  It was an early first night but we needed to shake off our jet lag for the next day.

Our next day started out with a quick, Spanish style breakfast in a little coffee bar up the street,  a walk through town on our way to the Guggenheim museum (see pictures below).

The obligatory selfie....

Rock Star posing . . .  seriously.

The famed Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao

One of my favourite permanent exhibitions at the Museum......with some of my favourite people in it!  Notice the scale of the structure....how did they install that????

Don & Pete, trapped in the maze.

Got to love a great spider!

Early evening stroll through the old town in Bilbao, starting our Tapas (Pintxoas) bar hopping.

Hmmh....what to order next?

Well....a G&T and a Cava of course!

My comrades stumbling home from our Tapas Bar tour with me in tow.

And now posing with the founder of the city, Diego Lopaz de Haro V, lord of Biscay.

Well, that's a summary of our Gathering.  Great to meet up with Pete and Shelagh again and we're already to start the hike on Friday.  Stay tuned!
